Fun on the Web Dec 22, 2010 Just funnies

Every December it was the same excruciating tradition. Our
family would get up at the crack of dawn, go to a Christmas
tree farm and tromp across acres of snow in search of the
perfect tree. Hours later our feet would be freezing, but
Mom would press on, convinced the tree of her dreams was
"just up ahead."

One year I snapped. "Mom, face it. The perfect tree doesn't
exist. It's like looking for a man. Just be satisfied if
you can find one that isn't dead, doesn't have too many bald
spots and is straight."

to spend the holidays with his relatives. How many guys are
going, 'Why didn't we think of that?'" -Jay Leno

As we were putting out cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve,
I accidentally dropped one. "No problem," I said, picking
it up and dusting it off before placing it back on the
plate.

"You can't do that," argued my four-year-old.

"Don't worry. Santa will never know."

He shot me a look. "So he knows if I've been bad or good,
but he doesn't know if you dropped a cookie on the floor?"

GIFT-WRAPPING TIPS FOR MEN

* Whenever possible, buy gifts that are already wrapped. If,
when the recipient opens the gift, neither one of you
recognizes it, you can claim that it's myrrh.

* The editors of Woman's Day magazine recently ran an item
on how to make your own wrapping paper by printing a design
on it with an apple sliced in half horizontally and dipped
in a mixture of food coloring and liquid starch. They must
be smoking crack.

* If you're giving a hard-to-wrap gift, skip the wrapping
paper! Just put it inside a bag and stick one of those
little adhesive bows on it. This creates a festive visual
effect that is sure to delight the lucky recipient on
Christmas morning

Your wife: Why is there a Hefty trash bag under the tree?

You: It's a gift! See? It has a bow!

Your wife: (peering into the trash bag) It's a leaf blower.

You: Gas-powered! Five horsepower!

Your wife: I want a divorce.

You: I also got you some myrrh.

In conclusion, remember that the important thing is not what
you give, or how you wrap it. The important thing, during
this very special time of year, is that you save the receipt.

As a potential juror in an assault-and-battery case, I was
sitting in a courtroom, answering questions from both sides.
The assistant district attorney asked such questions as: Had
I ever been mugged? Did I know the victim or the defendant?

The defense attorney took a different approach, however.
"I see you are a teacher," he said. "What do you teach?"

"English and theater," I responded.

"I guess I better watch my grammar," the defense attorney
quipped.

"No," I shot back. "You better watch your acting."

When the laughter in the courtroom died down, I was excused
from the case.

Place the windows over the hay bales to create a roof for your garden. The hay will insulate your garden, and the windows let sun reach your soil and plants. Even with snow piled around your beds, your vegetables will stay warm enough to thrive all winter!"

Questions and Thoughts to Ponder

1. Does a clean house indicate that there is a broken computer in it?

2. Why is it that no matter what color of bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?

3. Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?

4. Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

5. On electric toasters, why do they engrave the message "oneslice"? How many pieces of bread do they think people are really gonna try to stuff in that slot?

6. Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?

7. Why is it that no plastic garbage bag will open from the end you first try?

8. How do those dead bugs get into those closed light fixtures?

9. Considering all the lint you get in your dryer, if you kept drying your clothes would they eventually just disappear?

10. When we are in the supermarket and someone rams our ankle with a shopping cart than apologizes for doing so, why do we say, "It's all right." when, it isn't all right?

11. Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?

12. Is it true that the only difference between a yard sale and a trash pickup is how close to the road the stuff is placed?

13. In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?

14. How come we never hear father-in-law jokes?

15. If at first you don't succeed, shouldn't you try doing it like your wife told you to do it?

16. The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four Americans is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends, if they're okay, then it's you.

Funny of the Day
One day, Hercules, Snow White and the Quazzimodo (Hunchback of Notre Dame) were standing around talking. Hercules spoke up and said, "I bet I am the strongest man in the world."

Snow White then looked around and said, "Well I bet that I am the most beautiful person in the world."

Then Quazzimodo looks around and quietly said, "I suppose that I am the ugliest man in the world."

An old man who had been listening in on there conversation said, "There is a psychic on top of that hill up there, why don't you each go in there and ask her yourself?"

The three friends agreed and they hiked to the top of the hill. Hercules went in first and came out a few minutes later and said, "I was right, I am the strongest man in the world."

Snow White went in next. She came out a few minutes later and said, "I was also right, I am the most beautiful person in the world."

Finally it was Quazzimodo's turn. He went in and after a few minutes he came out scratching his head. He looks up at his friends and said:

Fun on the Web Nov 1, '10 GeoTags and Staying Safe

As reported on TMJ4 this am, many SmartPhones are equipped with GeoTag functions which may or may not be activated in your phone.

Many people aren't aware of this function, and don't know that if the GeoTag is "ON" -- taking photos with a SmartPhone and posting them online will also attach the exact GPS location of the photo taken.

The website http://icanstalku.com/how.php was started by a guy who realized that as he was posting photos of his child online, he was ALSO posting his home location.

So -- anyway --- just something to be aware of. If you have a SmartPhone and don't know whether your GeoTag is on or off --- it's something you might want to find out more about (and you might want to mention it to your friends/relatives).

If you haven't tried any of these, go for it:

I have never let my schooling interfere with my education.

Education: that which reveals to the wise, and conceals from the stupid, the vast limits of their knowledge.

I have been through some terrible things in my life, some of which actually happened.

Honesty is the best policy - when there is money in it.

Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

An Englishman is a person who does things because they have been done before. An American is a person who does things because they haven't been done before.

Always acknowledge a fault. This will throw those in authority off their guard and give you an opportunity to commit more.

No Farms No Food - I was shocked when I saw this:

"Did you know that we don’t produce enough fresh fruits and vegetables for everyone to eat a balanced and nutritious diet? In fact, it is estimated that we need another 13 million acres of farmland growing fruits and vegetables in this country just for Americans to meet the minimum daily requirement of fruits and vegetables set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture."

Betty Boop Festival in Wisconsin Rapids sounds like fun. I never knew that the illustrator was from Wisconsin. He went on to work for Disney on Snow White as the primary illustrator and helped animate Mickey Mouse in Fantasia (among other things). He also worked on Popeye and Gulliver's Travels.

Wisconsin Rapids WI, which is hosting the festival August 5-8 in part to honor the original animator of Betty Boop – native son Grim Natwick, born and buried in Wisconsin Rapids – and to celebrate Betty Boop. According to the ASIFA-Hollywood-International Animated Film Society, “Grim Natwick is undoubtedly one of the most influential animators who ever lived. . .

In addition to Betty Boop events, organizers are planning many other artistic and entertainment activities, such as an expanded Grim Natwick animation exhibit; scenic motorcycle tours; an animated film festival; visual art gallery; animation art collectors show; a dance, and other activities.

Fun on the Web July 7, 2010 Tenutas Deli

I have probably mentioned the lack of Deli here in town. Here is an old fashioned Italian Deli and Grocery Store complete with wines, exotic beers, spices, breads, and a huge square deli case in the middle of the store offering prepared goodies, cheeses, meats, and bakery. The smell of spices intermingles with the popcorn they make throughout the day. A small bag is just a quarter!

There is an Outdoor cafe with Usingers brats, Italian sausages, ice cold soda including Point (which is a brewery in Stevens Point that makes a premium soda.) This used to be a regular stop for us whenever Sheila ran out of Parmigiano-Reggiano. Although the prices are reasonable I would always come home with so many goodies that I would spend a pile of money. Then I would eat more Italian foods for a few weeks since I would incorporate the ingredients into my menus.

This time I got some good cheese, spices, and 2 kinds of Greek olives plus a Muffolatta sandwich. We ate the popcorn and cannolis in the car before we even got out of the parking lot. Yum!

Fun on the Web June 19, 2010 - Progress Report

Class two is done and on to the next one. Currently learning the 2007 version of Word and Excel (both have substantial changes from the 2003 version). Monday we are adding IT Service Concepts which will cover customer service, industry trends, teamwork, IT professional work habits, how to solve and prevent problems, and the importance of documentation.

I have qualified for the IT Network Security Program and am waiting to see if the appropriate classes will be available to me. This is now just a waiting game but I'm busy and will have 10 credits at the end of summer. Many of these apply to the degree so its one step in front of the other.

Next its off to visit with a friend with a birthday to celebrate. We are going to the Summer Solstice Music Festival and then to hear music with a few rummage stops on the way. Print the flyer for a reduced entry fee to the Urban Garage Sale:

Fun on the Web June 14, 2010 Simple Yes No Tool

This is something Sheila used to tell me to do (along with the get out a giant clipboard and list the pros and cons) but I never could have put it into words as concise yet explanatory as this article.

A gift from my brother I have always loved.

I’m now embarrassed for my earlier post with my ‘decision matrix’ that many of you e-mailed me to check out. While I think it is still a valuable tool, and maybe can be done in conjunction with this new one, I think this new one alone is a pretty valid way to figure out what will make you happiest. It is so simple, yet incredibly accurate.

I learned it from a course I took this weekend with Alan Cohen, called The Coin of Destiny. If you haven’t checked out his work, I suggest you do, as he has profound insights in a number of ways. OK, so here is the new process to try out for making a decision:

Find a coin, and make heads=yes and tails=no or customize a coin using the tip at the end of this post.

  1. Think hard about a decision you need to make.
  2. Make that decision into a yes/ no question.
  3. Think / feel that flipping the coin is the absolute answer to the question. Really take a moment to feel it.
  4. Flip the coin and see where it lands.
  5. BEFORE you go in to your head, feel your feelings when you see where it lands (i.e. if it lands on tails / no – how does that make you feel?).
  6. If it makes you feel GOOD and POSITIVE, your answer ‘no’ to your question is correct.
  7. If it makes you feel BAD and NEGATIVE, your answer ‘no’ to the question is INCORRECT.
  8. Make the decision accordingly.

Point number seven is incredibly important. It is how you feel when you see how the coin falls, not how the coin falls. The heads or tails is not the answer, it is the feeling about the answer. This is so simple, yet after trying it you will see profound.

See, we get up in our head to make decisions when usually our heart and gut already knows. It is just very, very difficult to get to our gut as we have learned so many ways to ignore it, get into our head and analyze the situation. You can really use it in any situation. The key is to trust yourself and your own feelings, not those of others or what your head barges in and interrupts with analysis.

We did this live and it was a profound experiment. There were five people that had a question they shared live. We all flipped the coin and answered a decision internally, while the five got up and shared their answer. 80% of these people had the most difficult time even doing it without continually going to their head and debating it with Allen in front of the group. Yet when we got past all of it, 100% of the people finally acknowledged that the answer they felt in their gut was the right one and it made them feel good. It was very, very hard to get there.

Once you make that decision, things standing in the way can easily disappear when you put the energy you used in making the decision to solving the obstacles. Miracles will come from where you least expect it. Simply open your eyes.

Please try it and share your results. Compare it to other techniques. Let us know what you think.

Tip: You can also take a poker chip and write things that resonate more with you and give you the answer right away – HECK NO! and Without a doubt YES! Get creative and make it fun!
