Fun on the Web Feb 23, 2011 Industrial Complex

Unfortunately we are in dark times in Wisconsin. The newly elected governor is once again using his jackboot manners to try to force change. First it was squashing the light rail project between Milwaukee and Madison. Now its union busting in the name of the budget. Is it all smoke and mirrors designed to distract from the secret buried in the budget? There are no bid contract clauses built into that budget.

Is multi corporate America trying to assert more control than should be allowed?

Fun on the Web Feb 21, 2011 Balance the Budget

Did you try your hand at balancing the budget?
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2010/11/13/weekinreview/deficits-graphic.html

By the way the budget in Wisconsin has just been revealed to have hidden agenda. Can you say no bid contracts for power and power plants? Is all the hoopla in Madison just distraction from this dirty dealing?

Fun on the Web Feb 16, 2011 Image Resizing

Well Gizmo may like this tool
http://www.techsupportalert.com/content/amazingly-smart-image-resize-tool-thats-free.htm

But I still say Irfanview rocks not only as a resizing tool that works well but as an overall program to work with photos. You can view, optimize, convert, and create slide shows plus much more. It's free too!

Fun on the Web Feb 9, 2011 Deep Freeze

We entered the Deep Freeze again with real temperatures of 12 below last night and 15 below predicted tonight. That puts wind chill in the thirty below range. Excuse me but I am getting back under the covers again. PS I have to go out in the middle of the night and run my car to make sure my car starts in the morning. It didn't this morning.

Fun on the Web Feb 6, 2011 Mardi Gras Already?

Since Mardi Gras Parades started in Orlando yesterday at Universal Studios
http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/02/06/2045733/its-time-to-shake-those-mardi.html

I guess we should talk about the Parades which actually started in January with an early one (Jan 6) but really get going today with Krewe of Claude. From Pontchartrain Drive onto Front Street and Gause Boulevard, the 24th Annual Parade featured about a dozen floats. Aside from the usual beads and trinkets, parade-goers also chucked decorated pecans -- Claude's signature throw.

Most people think of Mardi Gras as one day, the day before Ash Wednesday but that is not true. Mardis Gras is really a season. Usually starting after Epiphany (January 6th) and extending to the final Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. It is a time filled with Parades and Balls sponsored by Krewes (groups who may or maynot be charitable organizations, but all are involved in elaborate preparation for the Mardi Gras Season.)

Dues to belong can range from $20 to thousands of dollars. "Criteria for krewe membership varies similarly, ranging from exclusive organizations largely limited to relatives of previous members to other organizations open to anyone able to pay the membership fee. Krewes with low membership fees may also require members to work to help build and decorate the parade floats and make their own costumes; higher priced krewes hire professionals to do this work. Parading krewe members are usually responsible for buying their own throws, the trinkets thrown to parade spectators according to Mobile and New Orleans tradition." according to Wikipedia.com.
