You could look at specific references like:

* Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page
* RefDesk http://www.refdesk.com/
* Snopeshttp://www.snopes.com/ to combat Hoaxes

You could create your own home page
http://www.protopage.com/

or in some cases long onto another home page. Allmyfaves, a home page started in 2007 is still bringing you the most interesting and refreshing information you can find on the Internet.
